There are going to be some charities that need your car or truck to be in running condition when it is donated. Typically this is because they intend to provide the car to some family in need. But in most cases, they do not care if the car is running or if it is a heap of junk sitting in your front yard rusting away; they'll have it towed and sell it to a salvage yard.
You may be wondering, why should I not look for potential buyers in my area when looking to sell my car rather than an auto salvage company? The answer is you should. It is quite likely that you may be able to find a car enthusiast or a needy person who would be willing to purchase your damaged vehicle but in some cases you may actually not be able to find a single buyer willing to pay for your beat up ride. This is because the cost of repairing the vehicle may be well over the actual worth of your car.
Furthermore, people who have rare or old vehicles that are no longer produced are able to get parts here. The last stage of auto salvaging is to get rid of any parts that cannot be used.
Another way that charities use a junk cars is also my favorite way because it is friendly all around. It also helps the environment.
salvage yards in iowa make the decision to scrap the junk car. This means that instead of selling the junk vehicle donation to a salvage yard, they decide to scrap or recycle the metal in the car and get the money from that. This is usually the better way because this provides the charities with more cash than salvage yard and it is a great way to reduce wasted metal! This is why my favorite vehicle donation company, Cars Helping Charities, uses this process for their automobile donations.
There are car
salvage yards and here used cars are actually purchased and sold. However, you need to have sufficient time in hand and with a thorough research you would be able to find one of the best vehicles that suit both your taste as well as your budget.
Use the old tried and true telephone. You can still do a lot of research using the telephone. Next in that line is use the computer. It seems you can't do too much without using one anyway so let it do some of the work for you. Simply type in the keyword "used transmission" and you will generally find what you are looking for. Make sure you have the make, model, year and the engine size of your car or truck available to make it easy and quick to find one. Local salvage yards are probably your best bet, but many of them will ship it directly to you or wherever you are having the work done so keep that in mind too. So if you have not decided on who is going to do the work on putting in your transmission you may want to get that nailed down as well.
